Dear Friends.
On April 15, 2021 at the Oak Mountain State Park, Governor Kay Ivey announced The Governor’s Plan for the Parks. The State Parks and the Alabama State Parks Foundation are launching a private public partnership with Alabama businesses, corporations, foundations, and individuals to raise $14 million. The money will fund an ambitious upgrade and expansion of park amenities.
Our goal is to improve the quality of park experiences for all the citizens of Alabama. We will make much-needed renovations to our existing infrastructure as well as build new cabins and campgrounds, playgrounds and nature trails. We will also fund new programs on the wonders of nature and environmental awareness. These important enhancements will increase park attendance by nearly a third or 1.5M visitors per year.
Governor Ivey shares our love for the State Parks. During the Covid crisis of 2020, she kept the parks open so that our citizens would have safe, natural sanctuaries for outdoor fun and recreation.
The Governor’s Plan for the Parks reflects yet another commitment to one of our State’s most cherished treasures. It will make a good park system even better. Indeed, it will give our parks a margin of excellence to make them the best!
I hope you will join our campaign by making a gift today. Urge others who are not First Friends of the Alabama State Parks to join us. Encourage them to visit our website, asparksfoundation.org.
And see you in the parks!
